About Us

Background and Mission - New World Communications was initially founded in 1997, in Woodinville, Washington in the United States of America by principal Art Johnson "providing intelligent solutions for a 21st century world".... and now also "delivering the mission-critical learning a new world needs. "

With a background in higher education teaching, in-service training, broadcast television. distance learning and years of marketing, sales, and business development experience, we initially got started by doing affordable websites and e-storefronts for small-to-medium sized businesses, allowing for other markets like e-learning, Internet conferencing, virtual transportation, virtual architecture, and now Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) to arrive and eventually mature.

Over several years, wearing hats as project managers and team leaders, we learned a great deal about many aspects of developing and managing successful e-business ventures, not only the technical and "look-n-feel" design side, but also the marketing and the business development side, and the need for better, more cost-effectiive, more timely, and more convenient on-going in-service training.

Being among a crowded "red ocean" of "web jockeys" and later on of "marketing communicators" just wasn't enough either for our own business needs or for our customers' in the then "Brave New World" of affordable e-commece. Due to the continual newness of it all, we were increasingly and continually being pulled in an e-learning direction, and over time had to increasingly "re-visit", "dust off" and "re-think" our old higher education teaching, in-service training and public television distance-learning "roots" in order to arrive at a new synthesis and to create a new leap in value both for ourselves and for our clientele.

There was so much more knowledge and subject matter expertise that people, organizations, and ourselves seemed to continually need, as our now 21st century world and connected economy continued to develop and grow...at increasingly faster... and at times...at now at "blurring" speed..like it does today.... especially in Internet conferencing and in e-learning...and we already understood the power of television.

Conventional institutionall methods of training and knowledge acquistion in a rapidly changing 21st century world just were not effective enough or timely-enough to empower people and organizations in a mission-critical way. Things in the marketplace itself were just changing too fast, so we had to change with the times ourselves.

Even though we implemented and delivered excellent web-based business presence and e-catalogs based on state-of-the-art e-commerce architecture, we continually discovered that people and organizations needed on-going consultation, and better training more conveniently and more cost-effectively delivered. Traditional learning institutions and training modalities were just not addressing the needs.

Doing "stand-up" training sessions was just too slow, and doing conventional one-on-one computer training was also too slow and too costly. These methods oftentimes were just not effective, and the training typically just didn't "stick"...

Little of it sunk in, and for many, going to "training" just meant yet another day of burning gas and of having to fight freeway gridlock, and of being away from the office all day, while work, e-mails, and voice mails continued to pile up back at home, while some poor one-day "subject matter expert" stood in the front of the room trying his or her darndest to "enlighten" you...about situations that even they didn't understand ...as specificially as "trainees" did.

The whole approach was not only wrong...but also counter-productive...e.g. being treated like children without any working knowledge in their own heads, got employees even angrier... instead of empowering them with practical new skills to construct new workable solutions based on what they already understood.

Also, taking the time to enroll in a college class for many of our "working world" clientele was both time and cost-prohibitive. First-generation "on-line learning" courses delivered via higher educational institutions and instructors ..."not in the business" or "working with the troops".. also left much to be desired. Out of the practical necessity of finding a better way to succeed ourselves and to train others on how to succeed with the technology, we had to develop ways to deliver training that was more relevant and "mission-critical" ...ourselves.

New World Communications, in addition to continuing its Internet consulting direction, therefore elected to take on building training capacity and going down the training and 21st century instructional design road using some of the newer communications technology that has since evolved. We started by working with commercially-licensed learning management system (LMS) architectures, but then settled on the idea of implementing and working with open source learning management system architecture because of its power and more progressive and effective constructivist learning direction, and because of its cost-effectiveness. We then greatly enhanced the learning using powerful video production skills we picked along the way...but with lower-cost and higher quality "desktop" ..and "laptop" technology - e.g. iMovie, Final Cut on the Mac and several packages on the Windows XP platform.

Shortly thereafter, we became involved working with "state-of-the-art", next-generation affordable group-based, face-to-face, real-time Internet conferencing using for virtual learning environments (VLEs) and as positive outcome, have developed The New World Learning Institute & Conferencing Center, a comprehensive blended approach to e-learning that "blends" traditional "physical world" learning and training delivery with "virtual world" and even "hybrid world" delivery, making training and learning delivery a lot more effective.

More recently we have even been working with screen capture utilities and SCORM/AICC - compliant software, even XML-based enterprise-wide document publishing systems for huge training and human resource development projects.

The New World Learning Institute & Conference Center is also an excellent resource for developing and hosting blended e-learning rich-media courses and for doing multiple-day "virtualized" or "virtual only" conferences and conventions, and for planning and developing webinars and focused series of Internet conferencing-based "conversations".
