New World Communications
Develops and Delivers Virtual Learning Center Supporting
State-wide Dropout Prevention
Project

Building Bridnges Project

[Seattle] New World Communcations has moved forward again. This time under contract with First Place School, a K-5 school and social services agency serving poor and at-risk students, educators, and social workers through implementation of a virtual learning center (using M.O.O.D.L.E.-based modular, object-oriented, dynamic learning environment architecture) in support of First Place School and its innovative Building Bridges Classroom Without Walls state-wide collaborative learning project.

This high-visibility two-year program focuses on delivering exceptional learning designed to motivate keep at-risk students in grades K-12 in school...and includes working strategically with Digital Learning Commons on-line learning resources for portfolio-based learning. In addition to implementing the project's virtual learning center, New World Communications has been instrumental in introducing powerful web television tools and strategies to the project. Other strategic partners and learning sites include Maxine Mimms Academy, Tulalip Elementary School, and the Yakima Valley Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC)

Information Management for Community Resource Development is an approach that key folks at New World Communications have been developing for over 30 years now. The approach includes utilization of the following tools and strategies:

1) Leveraging the Power of the New Web Television: Over the last six months, the web television marketplace has exploded, and NWC with its extensive background in both television systems and programming has been at the forefront, implementing new tools & strategies, making the power of web television accessible even to economically and technically-challenged individual consumer or not-for-profit schools or organizations.

2) Open-source On-line Learning Systems Architecture: NWC has been working with M.O.O.D.L.E. course management system architecture for over three years now.

3) Research & Development working with Collaborative Communications Tools & Strategies: New World Communications has has the good fortune of being an early front-runner, investing its time and resources working directly with front-running companies like Swedish face-to-face Internet conferencing start-up Marratech (whose technology was acquired by Google).

4) Front-running 3-D visualization working with meta-worlds and with @Last Software, developers of SketchUp 3-D design software (also acquired by Google). The next phase of this, with more layers of technolog integration will deliver what early architectures like Second Life have been able to promise... and with not as much "hype" either.

The net value and benefit to our growing clientele is that they can now take advantage of our expertise and what we have now learned as they seek to navigate through a myriad of new offerings and have to make strategic choices about technology directions.

4) Leveraging the Power of Communications
... Even in the not-for-profit sector, competition for support and funding is fierce, due to the same market forces and accountability is the name of the game, especially in education both public and private.

5) Leveraging our Teaching, Training, and Learning Background: Our diverse background in multi-cultural higher education teaching, marketplace training & development, and in commercial and public media is now a real benefit that we can leverage on behalf of our customers in a now more diverse world.
